D A Browne & Son butchers has been established since 1934 and is now in the 3rd generation with shops in Diss and Harleston.
D A Browne & Son is a traditional family butchers. Founded in 1934 by Dan Browne, the business is currently managed by his grandson Danny with shops in Diss and Harleston.
Though much has changed in the trade over the past 76 years “Brownes” have kept many of the old traditional ways.
All meats are sourced locally with traceability being of vital importance. They are bought in whole and then boned and prepared. Beef is well hung to give it time to mature before sale.
We still make pork cheese (brawn) and are able to get such things as sweet bread, pigs fry and tripe and the more unusual, ostrich and kangaroo steaks, in fact given time we can for fill most requirements.
We cure and smoke all our own bacon and hams and have done now for the last 20 years. Our process takes weeks not minutes unlike manufactured bacon and hams.
Fresh milk and eggs are sold at both shops with Harleston also selling fresh bread from Roystons Backery in Long Stratton.
